Tutorial & data
Control your guide and backups.
Where your data lives Folders, flashcards, progress, pet details and settings are stored in this browser's local storage. They are not synchronised to another device. Clearing browser/site data, using a different browser or opening the file under a different origin can make the data unavailable. Keep regular JSON backups.
How to use Recall
A quick guide to the main features.
1. Find your way around
On a phone, use the fixed navigation bar at the bottom for Home, Folders, Revise and My pet. Tap More for Settings, Help & privacy, backups and the tutorial. Tap the Recall logo at the top to return home. On larger screens, use the sidebar.
2. Add flashcards
Write a clear question on the front and its answer on the back. Choose the folder where it belongs.
3. Organise folders
Use Copy folder and Paste folder for a full independent copy. Use Move to or drag a folder; the top-level drop area moves it out of its parent.
4. Revise
Choose flashcards, multiple choice, type-the-answer, fill-in-the-gaps, matching, mixed practice or a generated crossword.
5. Pet and themes
Choose a pet in My pet. Change appearance in Settings. Pet rewards are optional and do not use streaks.
6. Back up
Export a JSON file from Settings or the sidebar. Import validates a file before replacing or merging anything.
Privacy in plain English
Recall is designed to work locally. It does not include accounts, analytics, advertisements, tracking pixels, external fonts, remote images, external scripts, AI requests, cloud sync or automatic sharing. The app stores your folders, card content, progress, pet choices and preferences in browser local storage. The app itself does not send those values to a server.
When you open a hosted copy, the hosting provider may still receive routine connection information such as your IP address, request time and browser/network metadata. Hosting providers may keep server or security logs under their own policies. A local HTML file avoids a web-host request after the file has been obtained, but your operating system, browser, backups and network can still keep their own records.
Do not put sensitive personal information, passwords, school account details or other people's private information into flashcards. Anyone with access to your unlocked device/browser profile or an exported backup may be able to read your data.
Storage note: local storage is not encrypted by this app. Backups are ordinary JSON files and are not encrypted. Save them somewhere you control.
Technical details
Recall is a single-file application. It uses browser JavaScript, local storage, file import/export and locally generated interface artwork made from system emoji. It does not load third-party code or assets. It does not register a service worker, request device permissions or use the clipboard API.
Local-file storage behaviour varies by browser. If data persistence is inconsistent when opening a file directly, use a private local web server or trusted static HTTPS host. An online host can log requests even though Recall itself does not upload revision data. HTTPS is recommended for hosted use. The linked web manifest supplies app name and icon metadata for compatible browsers, but this version does not include a service worker, offline cache or background update system; installation behaviour varies by browser.
